Northwest Black Collective

Connecting and empowering the Black communities of Northwestern Ontario.

Northwest Black Collective respectfully acknowledges that we are situated on the lands of Fort William First Nation, signatory to the Robinson Superior Treaty of 1850. We are committed to conducting our work with the recognition that we are operating within a larger colonial structure that continues to impact Indigenous Peoples today. We also acknowledge the peoples brought to this land by the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. We commit ourselves to recognizing and challenging the influences of settler society in our working and living conditions, the impacts of genocide, oppression, and exclusion on the communities around us.

Kwetu Youth Hub

The Kwetu Youth Hub supports young people primarily impacted by the education and child welfare systems. Founded on the pillars of community building, cultural empowerment, education, life skills, and wellness, Kwetu hopes to increase accessibility to education and community supports in a way that honours the realities of what Black youth experience.
This initiative is supported by the Laidlaw Foundation.

Working Together for Community

Our collective exists within the context of a larger community. We want to help our community by collaborating to provide accessible learning opportunities that enhance cultural awareness and enact social change in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.
